Meet Samjana – Employee of the Month

by Sonja Kraft

Fashion Revolution - Nepal Ethical Manufacturing

Congratulations, you won the employee of the month award!

Thank you!

How did you feel when you found out that you won?

I felt very happy!

We want to get to know you a little bit better. Can you tell us about your family?

I have 6 people in my family and they all support what I am doing. My brother and father work while my sister-in-law and mother stay at home. I also have a brother who is studying in school right now.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to dance! I also like to read, especially English books, which are translated into Nepali. I like to read to learn, but most importantly I like to dance.

Who is your role model and why?

My role model is my father because he supports me in everything I do.

What is something fun or interesting you have done recently?

One thing I did just recently was celebrate the holiday, Holi. I went to a concert and listened to the music and danced a lot.

If you only had one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

I think enjoyable. I can have fun with everyone.

Cutting services - Cut and Sew Manufacturing

What is your job at Purnaa?

I am a cutting technician. My job is to cut the fabric.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Before cutting we have to mark the pattern on the fabric and I enjoy that. I like cutting with the big machine because it’s harder to cut with the scissors.

How long have you worked at Purnaa?

Eight months

What is different about Purnaa from other places you have worked?

Where I worked before, it was just work, home, work and home. Here at Purnaa there is work, but at the same time there is fun. There is no partiality between any of the employees. It’s a fun-loving environment.

What motivated you to come to work at Purnaa?

Before I got a job here, I came here for one week for temporary work. I saw that Purnaa was a fun environment. I liked all the staff. The head staff and management team were very nice. That motivated me to want to work here.

International Women's Day

What keeps you coming to work?

This place and my work both motivate me. Purnaa focuses on women and it is a good environment. Also, at first, I didn’t have to be an expert and know everything. Coming here I can learn because there is training. That’s why I like it here.

How have you changed as a person since working here?

Now I really like my work. I have learned new things. Before, where I used to work, it was just work and I didn’t learn anything new. Here, I get a chance to learn new things and it makes me continue to want to work. Before, I didn’t know what my capability was, but now I have learned what my own capability is. I know I can do it. I have self-motivation.

If I were to ask your team leader what your greatest strength is, what would they tell me?

She might tell you that I am very hard working and very serious about work.

If you had to convince a friend to apply for a job at Purnaa, what would you tell them?

First, I will tell them about Purnaa and then I will tell them what type of work we do here. I will say that Purnaa is a very good place to work and there is no partiality among anyone here. Everyone is very friendly. They always encourage you to work even harder. They always encourage and motivate me. That is the environment here at Purnaa.

What dreams do you have for the future?

Related to my work, I really want to be a good cutting master and also a good pattern maker.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Everything is good in my life.
