Nepal Flood Recovery Campaign

The Flood lasted minutes.
Healing takes longer.

Purnaa is raising funds to provide counseling and longer-term psychosocial support for children and families affected by the August 26 flash floods in Nepal. Children come first.

Recovery is more than rebuilding

Why Counseling?

The immediate crisis can pass quickly. Children can continue to need support long after the floodwaters are gone.

Purnaa wants to help children and families affected by the floods access counseling and psychosocial support as they process what happened and begin rebuilding their lives.

  • Children are the primary focus of this campaign.

  • Other affected family members may also receive support where appropriate.

  • Support provided in affected communities.

  • Support will be available to people who have relocated to the Kathmandu Valley.

  • The goal is longer-term recovery, not only immediate relief.

Support where its needed

How the campaign works

1 / You Donate

Your donation helps fund the campaign.

2 / Purnaa provides comfort

Purnaa donates a stuffed toy to an affected child.

3 / Children and families receive support

Qualified counseling and mental health partners provide services to affected children. Counseling and therapy also available to other family members.

When the floodwaters recede,
recovery continues.

Homes and roads can be repaired. What a child carries from a day like that can take much longer to work through.

This campaign is designed to support therapy and longer-term psychosocial rehabilitation, not only immediate material relief.

The stuffed toy is a tangible expression of care — something Purnaa can place directly in a child's hands, and a connection between the person giving and the child receiving support.

Purnaa is donating the first 100 stuffed toys. Purnaa will manufacture additional stuffed toys at cost, and the proceeds associated with all purchases go towards therapy services.

Purnaa is partnering with qualified organizations such as Happy Minds Foundation to help provide counseling, therapy, and psychosocial support.

Our aim is to provide support to one child for every $40 raised. This includes one stuffed toy and counselling or therapy sessions. For example, if $400 is raised, Purnaa will donate 10 stuffed toys and Happy Minds Foundation will provide healing therapy to 10 children in individual or group sessions over a single or multiple sessions. $400 would provide about 25-30 hours of a qualified counsellor's time plus travel and materials.

While individual counselling is powerful, people often heal best collectively. Group programs incorporating music, drama, and expressive arts are proving highly effective right now.

Happy Minds Foundation will provide informal engagements like art therapy, knit therapy, or speed counselling. However, having a consistent counsellor present each day helps build trust, lowers resistance, and gradually encourages deeper engagement.

It is one part of a broader therapy and rehabilitation effort, not a substitute for it. The campaign's central purpose is psychosocial support.
